Emily S. Damstra

BFA in drawing, Alma College
MFA in science illustration, University of Michigan

As a full-time freelance illustrator, Emily works from home where her cat Murray keeps her company. She envies his contented snores and his ability to be so completely relaxed.

Recently, she has had the opportunity to be the Artist-in-Residence at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (‘01) and Rocky Mountain National Park (’02). These two illustrations were created in that capacity. The Karner Blue Butterfly, an endangered species, was done in Indiana. The lichens on pink granite are from Colorado. Both are colored pencil illustrations.

Emily has done work for The University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, The Cranbrook Institute of Science, The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, The University of Michigan Press, ExhibitWorks, ScienceWorks, The University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, and others.
