Each original painting is an accurate representation of a given species, approved by an expert zoologist. Each is also a unique and beautiful piece of artwork that is signed by the artist. It is difficult to capture fine details and subtleties of color when creating images for the web, so the artists at Michigan Science Art feel that you will be pleasantly surprised at the high quality painting you receive if you order an original.

Our originals are painted in gouache, a type of paint that is similar to watercolor, but is opaque. The surfaces are variable; the artists use watercolor paper, bristol board, illustration board, colored matboard, and other surfaces. If you wish to know on what surface a particular painting is, please contact us with your inquiry.

The original paintings also vary greatly in size. You can see the approximate size of each painted image listed by each individual animal in our online database. Some paintings may come with small “birthmarks,” stray marks of paint that can typically be hidden by a mat.

Michigan Science Art offers the option of having your original artwork professionally matted and framed. Once you have chosen the animal(s) you want, your shopping cart will offer this option. Once you have chosen the animal(s) you want, your shopping cart will offer this option.
