Michigan Science Art tackled the massive job of illustrating the 16 volume Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia. The encyclopedia is being revised for the first time in 30 years with up to date species information, photos, and of course, illustrations. The Michigan Science Art crew is still hard at work creating over 5,000 illustrations of various species- from ants to elephants. The artists make certain that each painting depicts the species with life-like realism and scientific accuracy. At times, the artists must also illustrate a species’ certain unique behavior, habitat, or other species-specific characteristic. Michigan Science Art began this project in fall of 2001, and it's projected to be complete by late 2003.
